Certain medications that inhibit bone resorption (calcitonin) increase consumption of vitamin C. Derivatives of salicylic acid (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid), certain antibiotics (tetracyclines) and certain drugs used to treat epilepsy (barbiturates) reduce the availability of vitamin C in the body through reduced absorption or increased excretion. High doses of vitamin C can lower the concentrations of ciclosporin, indinavir, warfarin and disulfiram in the blood.
Concurrent administration of vitamin C and products containing aluminium for heartburn (antacids) can lead to increased uptake of aluminium. Caution is especially advised if you suffer from kidney failure.High doses of vitamin C can increase the level of ethinyl estradiol (contraceptive pill) in the blood. When discontinuing vitamin C, there is a risk of spotting and failure of the contraceptive effect
